The event was born from the meeting between the floral artists of Netino and those of Lazio from Genzano, where this painting technique had already developed. Thus came to life an event that soon met with great success to the point of being considered one of the most beautiful and awaited events on the entire island. The infiorata of Noto is one of the initiatives included in the program of the “Baroque Spring”, including concerts, exhibitions and the long-awaited “Baroque Parade”.

400 thousand flowers

The “canvas” on which the artists create their works is the central Via Nicolaci (122 meters long and 7 meters wide), divided into sixteen sectors. The final result is a work of about 700 square meters that requires the use of about 400 thousand flowers, including carnations, daisies, gerberas, tufts of fennel and euphorbia, valerian, mugwort and myrtle flowers and olive branches, collected in the countryside of the Netino area. The theme of the festival changes every year and is usually inspired by religion, mythology, art or local folklore.

Program of the Infiorata di Noto:

• Friday 17 May: assignment of the sectors to the winning artists of the competition for the design of the floral panels and creation of the sketch of the future floral work;

• Saturday 18 May: creation of the works with the flowers grown specifically for the event, until the completion of the painting;

• From Sunday 19 to Tuesday 21 May: visit and exhibition of the works, until late in the evening.
